Interim Zoning Regulations – Parcel Owned by Saputo Cheese USA
The Hinesburg Selectboard will hold a public hearing at the Town Offices on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 7:30 pm
to receive public comment on proposed revisions to existing interim zoning regulations. The geographic area
affected by these regulations is the 15.4-acre parcel owned by Saputo Cheese USA, which currently comprises
the entire Industrial 3 Zoning District and a small portion of the Village Zoning District.
The purpose of the interim regulations is to provide a location within the existing village core area for employment,
light industry, housing and other compatible uses that bring value to the community and maintain Hinesburg’s unique
sense of place.

On November 25, 2009, a bicyclist was struck by a car exiting Lantmans parking lot. The bicyclist was riding north on
the sidewalk crossing the exit lane of the market. The driver of the vehicle disregarded the signs at the exit which
read: “Stop Here On Red” and “No Turn On Red.” The collision with the bicycle occurred when the driver crossed the
stop bar on the roadway leading from Lantman’s onto Route 116. The designation at this intersection was specifically
instituted to protect pedestrians due to the lack of visibility of the sidewalk
The cyclist was injured and taken to Fletcher Allen where he was treated and released. In an effort to prevent future
incidents in which pedestrians and cyclists may be seriously injured, the police department has initiated a stepped up
enforcement at this intersection. Drivers failing to obey the signs at this location could be fined $214.00 and have
two points taken off their license.
